Client Spotlight – Tammy Dindoffer

Tammy Dindoffer is the Volunteer Executive Director for My Place, a living space in Jackson for females ages 16 – 21 who are aging out of foster care and need a safe place to live. Many have experienced neglect, abuse, and homelessness. My Place gives them the opportunity to gain the life skills, educational opportunities, and emotional support needed to become successful and responsible individuals.

Tammy was involved with “Set Free”, an International Anti-trafficking group at Arbor Church in Spring Arbor, MI. In 2019, Set Free completed a survey to find out how they could make a greater impact on Jackson County.

The survey determined there is a lack of housing for kids aging out of foster care. Many in the foster care system are not willing to take in teens, minors aren’t able to rent apartments, and many don’t have the skills or finances for independent living. It was at this time that Tammy retired as Dean of Human Services at Spring Arbor University and shifted her focus to establishing My Place to help fill this housing void.

The girls are referred to My Place mainly through the Foster Care System. and go through a process to make sure My Place is a good fit for them. Along with needing a safe place to live, many of the girls arrive needing a job, a state ID, a bank account, and help taking Drivers Ed and logging all the driving hours needed to get their license. Others are long overdue to see a dentist and eye doctor. My Place helps the girls resolve issues such as these, and also uses already established community services to meet other needs such as tutoring and counseling.

Each resident pays a modest rent, has assigned chores, purchases and cooks their own food, and signs an agreement for behavior. My Place does not receive any state funding and runs on grants and individual donations.

Since opening in 2021 there have been 3 “graduates” of My Place. One is living and working independently, another is a student at Jackson College, and the third was reunited with her family.

Within the next year My Place hopes to open a male housing facility and is working to obtain licensing to begin a Social Enterprise, My Bakery, to help residents earn income and learn job skills.

If you would like to volunteer at My Place, click here and fill out the form at the bottom of the webpage. They can use help with things like house maintenance / repair, driving with the girls so that they can log enough hours to get their license, or covering a “house supervision” 5-hour shift.

Tammy and her husband, Walt, have been Paramount Wealth clients of since 2020.

The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience, and the algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of approximately 34,925 nominations, more than 6,550 advisors received the award. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor’s future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients’ experience.
