The Art Of Giving What You Can’t Take With You

A suite of early works from a celebrated artist. A complete set of first editions without a single cracked spine. A Brasilia buffet full of Pyrex. A spare room dedicated to artfully curated Star Wars memorabilia.

All passionately collected – and potentially at risk, without a thoughtful plan to either keep them in the family or share them with the world.

Introducing Kylie Clark

Congratulations to Brennan and his wife, Lisa, on the birth of their third child, Kylie.

We are so happy for their growing family and wish them all the joy that comes with this wonderful new addition!

Family Update

Many of you have known Josey, Candace’s daughter, since she was little. This fall, she begins an exciting new chapter as a freshman at Indiana University. She has been accepted into both the College of Arts and Sciences and the prestigious Hutton Honors College, where she will be studying Anthropology.

Josey’s curiosity about people, cultures, and history makes Anthropology a natural fit, and we have no doubt she will thrive.

She’s also beginning her college adventure with a roommate from New York, adding another dimension to the new experiences ahead.

We couldn’t be prouder of Josey and are excited to cheer her on as she embraces this next phase in her life.

Make The Most Of Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period

Medicare’s open enrollment season is coming soon. Between October 15 and December 7, you are able to make changes to your Medicare Advantage plan and prescription drug coverage.

During this time, you can change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan or vice versa, or switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan. You can also join a Medicare Advantage or Medicare prescription drug plan for the first time or drop your drug coverage completely.

Even if you’re satisfied with your current plan, open enrollment presents a great opportunity to make sure you’re getting the most out of Medicare. Every year you should compare your current plan to other plans in your area in case another plan offers better health and/or drug coverage at more affordable prices.

The coverage provided by insurance companies often changes each year. You could wind up paying more out of pocket on healthcare expenses throughout the year.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • Ask yourself: Have my needs changed? Is my current coverage adequate? Will the cost of my current plan be going up? Are there comparable, lower cost plans available?
  • Review the annual notice of change from your current plan provider. You should receive this in September.
  • If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, make sure your doctor is still accepting your particular plan next year. If your doctor is out of network, you will have to choose a new plan or pay higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • Carefully review your plan for prescription drug coverage and determine your copayment and coinsurance costs.
  • If you switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to Original Medicare, you will want to join a standalone Part D plan to get Medicare drug coverage.
  • Compare plans using the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov.
  • Get one-on-one assistance from the State Health Insurance Assistance Program.
  • Call the Medicare Rights Center at 800.333.4114 for free counseling.
  • All changes to your Medicare plan will take effect on January 1 following the enrollment period.

Don Hershberger CFP®, AIF®, CRC®, Founder and President, PWM, was named on the 2024 Forbes Top Wealth Advisor Best-in-State list.

The Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors 2024 ranking, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. This ranking is based upon the period from 6/30/2022 to 6/30/2023 and was released on 4/3/2024. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience, and the algorithm weighs factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of approximately 44,990 nominations, roughly 8,500 advisors received the award. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor’s future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients’ experience.
